Main Focus
I am interested in the details of learning and proficient behaviour. Animals often learn remarkably quickly, given the vast perceptual and action space they operate in. To understand how they can learn this behaviour, I apply nonparametric models to their learning trajectory, finding the points at which their behaviour changes suddenly, as if through a sudden insight, and periods during which their progress is more slow and gradual. At the moment I also study fully proficient behaviour, using neural networks to extend the class of cognitive processes which can be modelled beyond classical cognitive models which use a small number of parameters and restricted functional forms.
